02 · How it works

Licensed adjusters make the calls

A licensed adjuster's name is on every file, every decision, every report. The software carries the routine steps. Licensed adjusters make the calls that matter.

Software

The busywork

Reads the complete claim file the day it arrives
Prepares first contact for the adjuster to review and send
Collects documents and schedules vendors at any hour
Checks your policy wording against each question asked
Drafts the notes and the report, and keeps status current
Licensed adjusters

The judgment

Coverage decisions
Weighing evidence and establishing the facts
The conversations that need an adjuster on the line
Settlement recommendations
Accountability on each file

The two sides talk. Before a decision goes out, the software puts everything that bears on it in front of the adjuster: the policy wording that applies, the evidence pointing each way, the questions a careful supervisor would ask. Judgment stays with the adjuster, now with the full picture in front of them.

Live status the whole way
Your examiner keeps every approval your guidelines require.

Today this covers property claims suited to desk adjusting, up to an authority limit we agree with you. Wind, hail, water, theft, and additional living expense, plus the high volume desk work that sits in queues. We do not handle bodily injury or complex liability.

03 · The artifact

One report format. Ten files or ten thousand.

Reports arrive in one consistent structure, in your format if you have one. Your examiners never relearn a format.

04 · Oversight

Your guidelines, consistently applied

A licensed adjuster is responsible for each claim we touch, and your examiner keeps the approvals your guidelines require. Your oversight stays as it is. What you gain is visibility: each decision leaves a record, so you can trace why a file went the way it went, step by step.

Applying your policy wording consistently cuts both ways. Fewer overpayments. Fewer missed coverages.

Files drift from guidelines in any claims operation, and the drift costs real money. Industry studies put claims leakage at 5 to 10 percent of claim payments, higher again where files reach litigation. Finding it was the founding team's trade. Audit tools review the file after the fact. Kernel handles the file. The same checks that find leakage in an audit run inside every file we carry, while it is open.

Found in audit, months later. Caught in the Kernel file, while it is open.
Coverage errors: policy wording applied from memory, unevenly across adjusters
Wording checked against every question on every file, before the decision goes out
Missed subrogation: third-party recovery never identified, or noted and never pursued
Recovery potential flagged on arrival and tracked to resolution, not left to memory
Estimate and invoice errors: duplicate payments, wrong scope, unapplied limits and deductibles
Every receipt, invoice, and estimate checked line by line against the file
Audit findings that never change how the next file is handled
Each reviewer correction tightens the system for the files that follow
Leakage range: industry benchmarks, incl. Insurance Thought Leadership (2022), EY (2025).

Best practice does not sit in a binder waiting to be remembered. The system carries it into each file, and when a reviewer corrects a file, the correction tightens the system for the files that follow.

05 · Security & privacy

Data stays where you choose

Claims data lives in the jurisdiction you name, and our agreements with model providers prohibit training on it. We support two deployment modes. Your security team picks.

Dedicated in-region

Models running on infrastructure we control, dedicated to your engagement, in your region.

Enterprise agreements

Model traffic under enterprise terms, with no training on your data and contractual retention limits.

06 · FAQ

The questions insurers ask first

Are you a technology vendor or an adjusting firm?+

An adjusting firm. You assign files, licensed adjusters carry them, and reports come back in a form your examiners already know. The software stays in the background.

Who is licensed, and where?+

Adjusting is licensed jurisdiction by jurisdiction, and a licensed adjuster of record carries each file. We walk through the licensing picture for your jurisdictions in the first conversation.

How fast is first contact?+

Work starts the day the file arrives: the file is read, the wording is checked, and first contact is drafted. A licensed adjuster reviews and sends it. How much of that outreach runs automatically is your call, made in setup, and every automated message identifies itself as automated.

Does software talk to our policyholders?+

Only if you allow it, and only for routine updates and requests, sent under the licensed adjuster on the file. Conversations that call for judgment or care happen person to person, with the adjuster on the line.

What systems do you work in?+

We adapt to yours. Files arrive however you send them today, reports come back in your format, and you watch status in between. Platform details can wait for the first call.

What does diligence look like?+

The usual file, under NDA. Licensing details, insurance certificates, security documentation, and the methodology behind the software.

07 · About

Why we built Kernel

Two policyholders with the same claim get different outcomes, different timelines, different treatment. No rule was broken. Claims work runs on thousands of judgment calls, and drift creeps in wherever attention runs short.

We did not find that fair. So we built a firm that handles each claim the way the insurer intended, to one standard.

The team brings claims, engineering, and consulting backgrounds. Kernel is built for insurers in Canada and the United States.
